I love Seasoned Salt.
It's easy to make and is a small detail that counts.
Typically salt is one of those ingredients that most dishes you Cook at Home require. You sprinkle it on and well, that's it, you don't think about it beyond that. Salt in that way is actually kinda of boring.
It doesn't have to be like that–salt has a lot more to offer. Sounds funny, right?

In fact, salt can be that small detail that helps bring big flavor to a dish. It has the power to turn something very simple to an extraordinary experience. Salt could really count. And when you are cooking as much as I am, every opportunity to make Family Meal more interesting and delicious, gets me excited.
Because it is grilling seasoning, right now I really like to make Savory Lemon Pepper Salt. It's great used as a rubbing salt on grilled chicken, fish, and steak. A pinch also brightens up French Fries and baked potatoes, or roasted veggies. Once you get the hang of how much is enough, you'll figure out all kinds of things to pinch this on. This salt recipe has a little punch to it, yet it is still mild. I love dishes that have a hint of a flavor but not so much that it's overpowering. That hint keeps you guessing, piques your palate and attention.
Savory Lemon Pepper Salt
- 1 cup course seasalt
- zest from 2 lemons, finely chopped
- 6 fresh savory leaves, finely chopped
- 4 fresh oregano leaves, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground red pepper
In a large bowl combine the seasalt, lemon zest, savory, oregano, and peppers and mix until well combined. Taste and correct with the ingredients to your likening. Keep the salt in a ceramic saltbox nearly your prep area so it's handy to season your dishes.
If you like this idea of seasoned salt, venture out and try new flavors. I've been experimenting with flavors such as Curried Mango Salt, Mojito Flavored Salt, BBQ Flavored Salt. Fun and all quite interesting. I'll be posted those soon, so be sure to check in.
